Hans Tauchnitz (1931-1996)
Mr. Tauchnitz, born in 1931, was a member of a
prominent German family best known for its
publishing business. Unfortunately, most of the
family holdings were located in what became East
Germany and were lost to the Communists after
World War II. Hans left for England after the war
and worked temporarily in London before
emigrating to Canada. In Toronto he worked as a
studio director for CBC Television and helped Mr.
Rogers with his earliest children shows in
Canada.
Hans gave up his title of Baron Tauchnitz to
become an American citizen when he continued his
television career at Penn State University. He
also owned a men's clothing store in State
College before eventually settling in Pittsburgh.
From 1983 until 1996, Hans was in charge of
Trendvest's massive investment database and was
largely responsible for the company's growth into
additional publications. Hans had a huge number
of wonderful friends and just as many terrible
jokes.
